We’re holding a couple of online events to celebrate:
1: Live NLT Study Bible online seminars. NLT SB General Editor Sean Harrison will be offering an online seminar to explain the features of the NLTSB and to demonstrate the usage of the NLTSB to study Genesis. Details: seminars will be less than an hour long each, on August 7 at 11AM CST and August 28 at 7pm CST. Click here to register.
2: 31-day NLT Study Bible giveaway. During his seminars, Sean will be answering questions about the NLT Study Bible. So we want to know what questions you have about the NLT Study Bible. Post your question in the comments of this post, and each day, I will randomly choose a winner of a hardcover NLT Study Bible from among the people who posted new questions that day. Update: The contest is over. Please feel free to continue asking questions and we'll try to answer them, but we won't be choosing any more winners. I will post a list of many of your questions and the answers to those questions once we can work our way through them.
Rules: You can’t win if you don’t ask a question about the NLT Study Bible. Don’t put your mailing address in your comment--if you win, someone will email you to ask you for your mailing address. We’ll send out all 31 of the Bibles the first week of September. You can only win once—but feel free to ask questions for as many days as you want until you win. Starting today.

Will there be an iPhone Application or an iPhone friendly site built for the online NLT Study Bible?
Will the NLT Study Bible feature the same contributors as the Cornerstone Biblical Commentary?
Mike
Why was it felt necessary to produce the NLT Study Bible in a red-letter addition?
will the study notes in this Bible be more for clarification of the text or application to life? I hope that makes sense.
Will there be a leather edition? I saw this on Amazon.
Jeff
I also would like to know if the study notes are strictly clarifying the text or is there material to help me apply it to my life & relationship with God? How will this be done in the notes? Through thought questions or just comments? Thanks for letting us know
Which dating scheme will be used for timelines (dates of Exodus, dates of writings, i.e. Revelation)?
Rich Shields
Will there be a software version of the NLT Study Bible?
This post has been removed by the author.
As far as the quality of the paper is concerned, is the material such that one can write notes on it without any ink bleeding or seeping through the page(s)?
How will the NLT Study Bible handle traditional texts that were almost certainly not part of the original autographs? For example John 7:53-8:11.
In one word what would be the best answer to Why should I buy the NLT Study Bible?
The ESV & NLT have distinctly different translation philosophies while both enjoying fairly wide acceptance by evangelicals. Given the number of people who are considering which to buy, could you comment on the difference in philosophy/feature set between the NLT Study Bible & the ESV Study Bible?
How portable is the NLT Study Bible (size, weight, durability, etc.)?
Do the notes advocate particular theological persuasions/interpretations (e.g., eschatology) or are all possible understandings presented for the reader to decide from?
When the NLT is updated again in the future will a new edition of the study bible come out too. If so will the study portions be updated also?
Jeff
In addition to these fine questions, does the NLTSB have a page or two with something like "Steps To Peace With God," "God's Plan To Save You," or "Plan Of Salvation?" (I have many Study Bibles (and regular Bibles of course)that include the above. Many people (and not just the Gideons International)think it's a great idea to have that available.)
What has the NLT team done to make sure the study notes and extra information given in the Study Bible do not confuse average Christians?
Were the study notes prepared by only a few individuals or a variety of contributors? Are they biblical scholars, theologians, or pastors?
How well do you think this particular Study Bible might serve a Pastor in the pulpit?
Also could you tell us more about the Bible reading plans at the end of the Study Bible? You put in a 5 year one as opposed to a one year one.
Thanks
Brian Fulthorp
What is the total number of cross references in the NLT Study Bible
Will the software version being advertised on the Tyndale website contain all the notes and helps of the printed study Bible?
Will there be any additional features added in the software version that are not available in the print version?
I've heard somewhere that the NLT translation will have its Spanish counterpart in 2009.
Will the NLT Study Bible also be available in Spanish in the foreseeable future?
In light of the fact that the NLT Study Bible "focuses on the meaning and message of the text as understood in and through the original historical context"*, how will the study notes address texts recognized as Messianic only much later? For example, Psalm 2 or Isaiah 7:14.
*Quoted from the NLT Study Bible Blog.
Are all editions of the NLTSB going to use symth-sewn bindings?
Would the NLTSB be available internationally for sale on the same date, August 28th?
I would like to see a NLT Study Bible with: wide margin, thicker pages, extra pages for notes, single column and large text.
How much of the study material will be charts, graphs, tables, maps, sketches, photos, etc.? Will this material be available in reproducible format for teaching?
How much interaction with the original languages is found in the study notes?
Is there plans for a new version of Ilumina Software including the NLTSB Text?
How were the scholars chosen?
Jeff
What other support materials will be coming from Tyndale tied to the NLT study bible?
How were the notes and aids designed? Is there any focus on helping someone prepare to lead a bible study on a passage/teach/preach?
If the current edition of the NLTSB is a success, which looks like it will be, will you consider an edition with Apocrypha?
Are the bindings sewn on any of the NLTSB editions? Also, do you know the "weight" of the paper used?
Thanks!
Dave
Will the SB have a comprehensive overview of the Intertestamental Period?
As part of its supplementary materials will the NLT Study Bible include a printing the historic creeds of the church?
Will there be a cheaper paperback edition (good for giveaways) soon?
Will there be a mechanism to offer critique/suggestions for the text and commentary notes?
Will any of the maps be in color or will the maps just be in black ink?
Will the Study Bible be available as an Accordance module?
How was the layout of Scripture text and notes decided--how was usability/helpfulness balanced against clutter and distraction in the page design?
Does the SB offer different Millennial Perspectives on the Book of Revelation?
What is the name of the typeface/font used and what is its size?
Jeff
Will there be a personal size edition (smaller and therefore easier to carry) available?
Does the NLTSB provide reference to different sources for further study, or is it considered to be a more "all-in-one" reference?
Will there be an accordance bible software version?
Will the NLT Study Bible include any information on the formation of the canon?
Tyndale publishes an NLT with an apocrypha. Will you be doing a apocrypha NLTSB and if so what will be different?
Is the base text going to be the 2007 revision or a later one?
Will the NLT Study Bible be available as a single PDF?
What is the number one complaint or criticism (of the NLT Study Bible) among those who have already been given a copy and have reviewed it?
Does the bible have a page where you can dedicate it as a gift?
The NLT often has strong translator notes giving a variety of more literal takes. Do the study notes ever go off the more literal translations in the notes? Do they ever explain the why of the more literal?
Will there be an index to the maps, time lines, and theme notes?
Is the focus of the contributors to the study Bible grammatical-historical or biblical-theology?
Will there be an Amazon Kindle version of the NLT Study Bible someday?
Are there ribbon markers in any of the editions?
Jeff
Will there be an e-sword bible software version?
Will it be more feasible to separate commentary notes from textual notes?
Rich Shields
What are the font sizes of the Scripture text and of the notes? What font are they set in? Thanks!
Will Libronix CD of NLT Study Bible be bundled with the book?
Does the SB have a very exhaustive Concordance?
Will the NLT Study Bible be orientated towards understanding the teaching of the Early Church, or will it be more focused on contemporary application?
Will there be an indexed edition?
Will there be an article outlining the history of the divine name traditionally rendered LORD in English translations?
Will the fonts be different for the Biblical text and the footnotes? (Not just size, but actual typefaces).
Rich
Will the NLTSB be available for the Kindle: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device? (eBook Form)
My Sister In Law, who has a Kindle, has the NLT Text Edition (ASIN: B001AS6H1M) loaded on hers and she said to ask "my friend" at Tyndale if the SB will be available! : )
The Kindle is really awesome-saving my pennies for one now! :P
Jim
Are there any points where the NLTSB note writers disagreed with the translators and if so how did they handle this situation?
Will there be an early bird offer for the NLT Study bible?
What is the expected first run numbers on the NLT Study Bible?
Rich
Will there be an article outlining the bible's symbolic use of numbers (especially in the OT)?
What would be the single most unique feature about the NLTSB?
Will the NLT Study Bible come with any software?
Does the NLT Study Bible affirm a literal six-day-young-earth creation view?
LB was very Arminian in its translation, while the NLT is more reformed. Where do the notes stand are they balanced, present both views or key verses or do the lean one way or another?
Would you consider selling unbound text blocks to another binder (such as R.L. Allan & Sons) so that a deluxe, sewn edition could be made available?
How often will the Study Bible be updated?
Rich
How was the size of the Bible decided up and gauged. Was there a size decided upon for introductory notes? How about how many comments to use for the Bible text?
Jeff
Is the NLTSB a red-letter edition? If so, what's the rationale for using red letters?
I greatly enjoy writing my own personal notes in my bible. Is there enough blank space on the page to write notes and comments? The space doesn't have to be just in the margins as I always footnote my notes. And closely related to this question: Is the paper thick enough to handle the writing of notes on it?
A second question I have is I have been hearing that the text of the NLT has been (or is being) updated again for the third time. Is this true? And if it is, the this new Study bible feature the update? Also, if true, where can I read up on what has been changed?
A thrid question I have, though not entirely related to this study bible, is do you know of any good sources defending dynamic translations as good translations for study purposes?
Thank you for your time!
Does the NLT stand for Neo-Liberal Translation? Ha. jk. Does that count as a question?
What kind of Software will be available with the NLT on it? Will the NLT Study Bible be on a Software Program? Will the Cornerstone Biblical Commentary Series be on a Software Series? Will we see some of this software next year?
Marty
What will the dimensions in inches be of the NLT Study Bible?
Will a full colour version of the NLT Study Bible be available?
Does the NLTSB have a table of weights & measures or are they integrated into the study notes?
Will the study notes be available as a separate, standalone volume?
Is there a write up on hermeneutics in the NLT Study Bible?
At roughly twice the cost of the "plain" NLT hardcover, how do you recoup the cost of all the resources involved with creating a study Bible. Are there a lot more sales to make up for it?
Jeff
Will there be a corresponding NLT for Spanish (like the original LB)?
Rich
Will there be an overview of key Greek terms used by Paul in his letters?
How were the contributors of the study bible selected?
Will there be a loose leaf notebook addition?
Do you have any plans that make a fine leather version? Something more than a Bonded leather and a Genuine leather cover, such as cowhide or goatskin leather.
What has been the best compliment paid to the NLT Study Bible for those who "lucky" few who has already got their hands on it?
Since the NLTSB is to be based in understanding the scripture in it's own historical context, will there be a comprehensive comparison / contrast of the structure and or timeline of parallel passages in the Gospels?
Why do you think your methodology behind the NLTSB study notes is better than the methodology of other study Bibles notes (like the NIV and ESV study Bibles)?
Will there be a Smyth Sewn binding edition of the study bible available someday?
Will there be regular revisions of the commentary notes or is that set in stone?
Rich Shields
There is a comparison chart for the ESV Study Bible, NIV Study Bible, and NLT Study Bible here:
http://rejoicesoftware.com/study_bible_compare.htm
and details on one software edition here:
http://rejoicesoftware.com/nlt_sb_details.htm
Any freebie (CD edition or accessories etc) that comes along with the purchase of the NLT Study Bible?
Will an accompanying CD be usable by both Windows and Macs?
Rich
elvin and exegete,
The cd-rom versions will be sold separately. There will be two Windows-based versions (Libronix and WORDsearch) and a PDA version.
How much information will there be about certain opinions on where texts came from, such as the documentary hypothesis and the supposed New Testament source "Quelle"? How will those topics be treated in the NLTSB?
And for those of us who can't be online during the seminars, will there be a way for us to see transcripts or otherwise experience a bit of the seminar?
Due to the wide degress's of theological thought in evangelicism today, do you think the NLT can be accepted by the protestant church at large or a specific segment of thought?
Was the UBS 4th/NA 27th edition used exclusively or were alternate manuscripts used.
I think of the NLT as a good reading Bible, but not a study Bible because of its use of dynamic equivalence.
Why do you think the NLT is superior a
