We’ve started the countdown: all of the hardcover NLT Study Bibles are arriving soon and will start shipping out of our warehouse. Most bookstores will have Some bookstores will start having the NLTSB in stock by one month from today: August 28!
We’re holding a couple of online events to celebrate:
1: Live NLT Study Bible online seminars. NLT SB General Editor Sean Harrison will be offering an online seminar to explain the features of the NLTSB and to demonstrate the usage of the NLTSB to study Genesis. Details: seminars will be less than an hour long each, on August 7 at 11AM CST and August 28 at 7pm CST. Click here to register.
2: 31-day NLT Study Bible giveaway. During his seminars, Sean will be answering questions about the NLT Study Bible. So we want to know what questions you have about the NLT Study Bible. Post your question in the comments of this post, and each day, I will randomly choose a winner of a hardcover NLT Study Bible from among the people who posted new questions that day. Update: The contest is over. Please feel free to continue asking questions and we'll try to answer them, but we won't be choosing any more winners. I will post a list of many of your questions and the answers to those questions once we can work our way through them.
Rules: You can’t win if you don’t ask a question about the NLT Study Bible. Don’t put your mailing address in your comment--if you win, someone will email you to ask you for your mailing address. We’ll send out all 31 of the Bibles the first week of September. You can only win once—but feel free to ask questions for as many days as you want until you win. Starting today.

Why was it felt necessary to produce the NLT Study Bible in a red-letter addition?
will the study notes in this Bible be more for clarification of the text or application to life? I hope that makes sense.

I also would like to know if the study notes are strictly clarifying the text or is there material to help me apply it to my life & relationship with God? How will this be done in the notes? Through thought questions or just comments? Thanks for letting us know

As far as the quality of the paper is concerned, is the material such that one can write notes on it without any ink bleeding or seeping through the page(s)?
How will the NLT Study Bible handle traditional texts that were almost certainly not part of the original autographs? For example John 7:53-8:11.

The ESV & NLT have distinctly different translation philosophies while both enjoying fairly wide acceptance by evangelicals. Given the number of people who are considering which to buy, could you comment on the difference in philosophy/feature set between the NLT Study Bible & the ESV Study Bible?
How portable is the NLT Study Bible (size, weight, durability, etc.)?
Do the notes advocate particular theological persuasions/interpretations (e.g., eschatology) or are all possible understandings presented for the reader to decide from?
When the NLT is updated again in the future will a new edition of the study bible come out too. If so will the study portions be updated also?
Jeff
In addition to these fine questions, does the NLTSB have a page or two with something like "Steps To Peace With God," "God's Plan To Save You," or "Plan Of Salvation?" (I have many Study Bibles (and regular Bibles of course)that include the above. Many people (and not just the Gideons International)think it's a great idea to have that available.)
What has the NLT team done to make sure the study notes and extra information given in the Study Bible do not confuse average Christians?
Were the study notes prepared by only a few individuals or a variety of contributors? Are they biblical scholars, theologians, or pastors?
How well do you think this particular Study Bible might serve a Pastor in the pulpit?
Also could you tell us more about the Bible reading plans at the end of the Study Bible? You put in a 5 year one as opposed to a one year one.
Thanks
Brian Fulthorp
What is the total number of cross references in the NLT Study Bible
Will the software version being advertised on the Tyndale website contain all the notes and helps of the printed study Bible?
Will there be any additional features added in the software version that are not available in the print version?
I've heard somewhere that the NLT translation will have its Spanish counterpart in 2009.
Will the NLT Study Bible also be available in Spanish in the foreseeable future?
In light of the fact that the NLT Study Bible "focuses on the meaning and message of the text as understood in and through the original historical context"*, how will the study notes address texts recognized as Messianic only much later? For example, Psalm 2 or Isaiah 7:14.
*Quoted from the NLT Study Bible Blog.

My Sister In Law, who has a Kindle, has the NLT Text Edition (ASIN: B001AS6H1M) loaded on hers and she said to ask "my friend" at Tyndale if the SB will be available! : )

Would you consider selling unbound text blocks to another binder (such as R.L. Allan & Sons) so that a deluxe, sewn edition could be made available?
How often will the Study Bible be updated?

How was the size of the Bible decided up and gauged. Was there a size decided upon for introductory notes? How about how many comments to use for the Bible text?
Jeff
Is the NLTSB a red-letter edition? If so, what's the rationale for using red letters?
I greatly enjoy writing my own personal notes in my bible. Is there enough blank space on the page to write notes and comments? The space doesn't have to be just in the margins as I always footnote my notes. And closely related to this question: Is the paper thick enough to handle the writing of notes on it?
A second question I have is I have been hearing that the text of the NLT has been (or is being) updated again for the third time. Is this true? And if it is, the this new Study bible feature the update? Also, if true, where can I read up on what has been changed?
A thrid question I have, though not entirely related to this study bible, is do you know of any good sources defending dynamic translations as good translations for study purposes?
Thank you for your time!
Does the NLT stand for Neo-Liberal Translation? Ha. jk. Does that count as a question?
What kind of Software will be available with the NLT on it? Will the NLT Study Bible be on a Software Program? Will the Cornerstone Biblical Commentary Series be on a Software Series? Will we see some of this software next year?

The cd-rom versions will be sold separately. There will be two Windows-based versions (Libronix and WORDsearch) and a PDA version.
How much information will there be about certain opinions on where texts came from, such as the documentary hypothesis and the supposed New Testament source "Quelle"? How will those topics be treated in the NLTSB?
And for those of us who can't be online during the seminars, will there be a way for us to see transcripts or otherwise experience a bit of the seminar?
Due to the wide degress's of theological thought in evangelicism today, do you think the NLT can be accepted by the protestant church at large or a specific segment of thought?
Was the UBS 4th/NA 27th edition used exclusively or were alternate manuscripts used.
I think of the NLT as a good reading Bible, but not a study Bible because of its use of dynamic equivalence.
Why do you think the NLT is superior as a version to study from, considering how many other versions (NASB, ESV, etc) attempt to be more literal and are valuable for study?
Does the study bible deal with the "New Perspective on Paul" in Romans and Galatians?
Is there an article on the history of translation methodology in the NLT Study Bible?
Will there be a wide margin edition of the study bible someday?
At what grade level will the study notes be written?
Are there a lot of blank pages towards the end of the NLT Study Bible?

Why do you think the NLTSB is a better Bible for study than other dynamic equivalent translations? For example, what the NLT better for study than the TNIV, the Message, etc?
This post has been removed by the author.
what page layout program did you use to lay out the text of the study bible? With your notes, quotes from other authors, illustrations, superscript numbers, etc, it's a complex job.
I'd be interested in knowing a bit about the print run. I expect that you would print thousands of text blocks, and then bind them differently, according to expected sales. You've got three pricepoints, based on type of bindings - hardback, tu-tone, and leather. What proportion of the print run gets devoted to each binding type? Did you reserve any blocks uncut, that could be made into limited edition smythsewn bindings?
Will the NLT Study Bible notes be put in other translations like the Life Application Study Bible?
Ron, I think the NLT team has created two different products - the life application bible is designed for a practical christian experience, while the new study bible is designed to provide a more academic approach to scripture and the theology in it.
But joining them together- now that would be something! but probably more than we would want to carry.
Will there be a review for each book of the Bible on the background / culture of the people at the time the book was written? I think it will help us study more effectively if we know why as their culture at that point in time may make no sense to us now. E.g. Knowing that the manger is actually within a house and not a separate holding. I never knew about that fact. Always thought it was a stable. But recently found out that in those times, people have an area near the main door which holds their animals. The animals are staying in the house and not outside as they are regarded as wealth and important enough to want to keep safe.

Will there be a Chinese Edition (or any other languages) of the NLT STUDY BIBLE soon?
Is there a discussion about the gospel "Q" in the gospels section of the study notes in the NLTSB?
How will the NLT Study Bible be useful to teenagers and young adults as they wish to delve deeper into the word of God
Does the NLT Bible hold to any one theological bent, e.g. Calvinistic, Arminian, Wesleyan, dispensationalist, etc.?
How are the NLT Bible studies set up: by specific Chapters/Books or based on a specific Biblical Person and is there a daily guide to use on a daily basis?
I have an Inspirational Study Bible that features Life Lessons on every page, they include a Situation, Obersavation, Inspiration, Application and Exploration. Does the NLT Bible have the same or similar features?
Ron, I think I misunderstood you before. There are life application bibles available in KJV, NKJV, NLT, NASB, and NIV. You asked: Would these new study notes be available in those versions. Hmmm. How does that work? Does Tyndale sell rights and licence the notes to other publishers, and what kind of limitations do they place on them to modify them? What kind of income for Tyndale comes from such licensing?
Will there be an online version of NLT Study Bible in different languages (e.g. Chinese, Japanese)?

I think it would be interesting to know about subsidized copies for poor pastors. Is there any plan to provide copies to ministers who can't afford this resource? Perhaps as part of a package available to annual denominational gatherings in Africa which were British colonies.
What caused you to want to work on the NLT study Bible? Is there something about the NLT or about the philosophy of the NLT study Bible that caused you to want to work on this project?
If I wanted to study a specific character trait like discernment, does the NLT Bible include a topical index to selected readings?
I'm wondering if there will be a timeline of history from Genesis through the the judges and kings - both Israel and Judah - and then on to the New Testament times and the writing of the NT epistles?
Will the NLT Study Bible contain an article on How to Study the Bible, as in other popular study Bibles?
will there be an anglicized edition of the NLTSB?
I see that there are many little articles on various subjects, [creation, original sin, etc.] in a single column and identified by a large gray triangle that bleeds off the page. Is there an index to these articles for quick reference?
What would you say are the best features of the NLT Study Bible - as an incentive to buy that one over others Study Bibles?
Will the NLT Bible have a Dictionary with a Topical Concordance? How detailed will it be.

Will there be a read-aloud version of this Bible in CD-ROM?
Will you publish the study Bible online?

Some study bibles have chronological guides, does this one have such a guide?
Some study bibles have chronological guides, does this one have such a guide?
Will there be illustrations/pictures of the historical sites or items?
How does the NLT Study Bible compare to other study Bibles (i.e. the NIV Study Bible) in the ability for the average person to use?
What made the NLT change back to "for forgiveness of sins" in Acts 2:38 in the 2007 revision, rather than keeping "to show that you have received forgiveness of sins" in the 2004 edition? I think the 2007 correction is great, but I just wonder why the change was made and what explanation the NLTSB gives in the commentary for this verse.
Will there be a large print version of the NLTSB available for easier reading?
The NLT Gen. 6:3 notes talk about the length of days and the option of the grace period of 120 years. Why does the NLT choose the idea of 120 yrs lifespan over the idea of grace period of 120 years?
(Plus extra ??? will it ever come in Gen leather or calfskin, How thick is it? and what was behind the translation of Mark 1:41 for compassion instead of anger?)

Is the NLT Bible based on the New King James Version?
We have many people very dedicated to the Life Application Study Bible. How much of the NLTSB notes will deal with application? What specific features or qualities of the NLTSB do you think would be most helpful in encouraging a LASB user to try the NLTSB?
What is the reading level of the NLT Study Bible?
I like the idea of looking at what the original writers were intending for their readers as a theme or approach to writing the study notes. Reminds me of Mortimer Adler's book "How to read a book", where he makes a strong effort to invite readers to clearly understand an author's intent before critiquing a text. For you, in your notes, it raises an interesting dimension of possible arrogance, in suggesting that ancient people "would have" understood what an author intended in those days. What kind of editorial process did the NLTSB go through to ensure that a balanced approach was offered in the notes?
Will there be an extensive archaeological section included in the NLTSB?
Printing in two colours offers creative opportunities. Have you been able to use the second colour - words of Jesus in red - for any other elements [perhaps to colour a map, or enliven a graph]?
Would you recommend the study bible to junior high level students?
Do the study notes reference documentary hypothesis concerning the first five books of the Old Testament?
Does the NLT study Bible comment on all of the difficult passages, such as those that deal with slavery, killings during Canaan wars, etc?
Will the NLTSB have a section comparing the 2004 to the 2007 update of the NLT translation?
The release date is only a few weeks ahead of the ESV study bible. Did you create deadlines to get out in advance of it's release in October? to beat them to the punch?
Are there detailed outlines breaking down each book in the introduction to each book?
When the CD, DVD and/or Study Guides do come out, will they be in the same format as the NLT Bible?
What is the font size?
Does the NLT Study Bible include disputed passages such as Mark 16:8-20 and will it explain why these disputed passages aren't considered to be canonical?
What is the weight of the NLT Study Bible?
Personally, I own a Reformation Study Bible and Life Application Bible, both in NIV version. Will NLT Study Bible be a useful addition? What are some features that will set this Study Bible apart from the rest? I do not want to get something and find that it is left sitting in the shelf. Will definitely be recommending it to the cell members if it is useful for the study of the Word of God.
Did you and others that work on the NLTSB consult other study Bibles, either making comparisons or to make sure not to duplicate other work?
Are you going to produce a Spanish version of the NLTSB? (Spanish is the first language for a good number of our people.)
And will a softcover edition be available?
What are the background[s] of the translators of this version of the Bible?
Are there any articles about the gnostic influence in the first century and its impact on the scriptures?
Will this new NLT study bible be easy enough for us seniors to understand and use? I grew up in the Mormon faith and was always taught that the Bible could not be trusted and was corrupted. Since becoming a Christian at an older age, I want to understand so much, but can I really trust this version or any version? I want to read the Bible and understand it and feel safe. Thanks, Mary
Is there an in-depth study of the Apostle Paul's travels? And when will the leather/soft-cover editions be available?
Will the Study Bible notes be offered as an Accordance module? (And, btw, when will the 2007 update be available on Accordance?)
How does the number of in-text maps in the NLTSB compare to the number of maps in the LASB?
When will we see a large print NLT without red-letter text?
As I recall, the LASB has been offered without red lettering. Is there any chance of a NLTSB without the red-letter text? I would willingly sacrifice my preference for single columns (I understand the spacing issue) for an edition without red lettering. Especially considering the potential significance of this release. I think this could be the standard study Bible for some time to come.

Have there been any changes made to the text of the NLT in the Study Bible?
When will the leather editions be available?
Are the NLTSB study notes available online?

Will the NLT Study Bible include the texts of John 5:3b-4 ("...waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel of the Lord went down and stirred up the water at certain times. Whoever first stepped in after the stirring of the water was healed from whatever disease which he suffered.") and 1 John 5:7 ("...in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one.")?
I know many modern translation Bibles do not include them, but most do not include a note for the omission, if they are a study Bible. If the NLTSB doesn't include them, will it have the note for the omission?
What makes the NLT Study Bible notes different from other Study notes?
August 22 2008
Hi there!
I would like to know if there will be a list of all the biblical places and their description in the appendix ? Thanks!
What is the ISBN number for the NLT Study Bible?

Will there be any of the following in the appendices:
A reading plan,
A harmony of synoptic pericopae from the gospels and Kings/Chron,
