Hi Folks. This is off topic, just didn't know where to post this. I have been a NLT reader since 2000. I will never forget how I felt when I received my paperback New Testament, how wonderful it felt to read and understand. That was a gift, and I ran out and bought a large print edition. Boy, did I mark it up! It was my friend, my quiet time with God. I upgraded to the second edition, and I love it even more. Even though my church uses the NKJV, at home I use my NLT.
I did have a comment / suggestion. Is there any chance of Tyndale publishing an edition of the NLT based on the texts used for the KJV? I figure that if Nelson can publish and market two distinct translations, why not you too? With the 400 year anniversary of the KJV, why not produce an edition of the NLT that mirrors it? Maybe you could call it the Traditional Text NLT or something like that. I know that many of my friends who like the KJV and NKJV would be more open to using a special edition of the NLT.
Claude, thanks for the question. I’m glad you love the NLT! Though we do publish Bible editions with the KJV and NKJV texts, I can’t see us choosing to base a translation of our own on the texts behind the KJV, as we believe that there are more recently-discovered manuscripts that are more accurate. Ya, I understand. It doesn't really make a difference to me. I was told by some good Christian friends that I am only getting 75% of God's Word through my use of the NLT. While I do not agree with this, my response was that even if this were true, at least I can understand 100% of what I read in the NLT!
I am so glad to have been informed of the new Tyndale.com. It has been a pleasure to work my way through the features. I landed here so I thought I would pause for a moment and take the time to encourage those who put it together by giving a praise---well done! I really love all the Tyndale products that I have purchased and look forward to updates of what's new.
